In October 1995 the birth of Sycamore Township EMS & Fire Department occurred.  This department unlike the two private fire companies that served the Township for more than 60 years, never had a bucket brigade or horse drawn fire engine steamers.  This department started with a paramedic service and complete suppression and rescue company.  It employed 11 career personnel who were supported by nearly 100 part time personnel who are certified as EMT/Firefighters or Paramedic/Firefighters.  Sycamore Township now serves a population of 150,000 during daytime working and weekend hours, and over 23,000 residents.

The Sycamore Towship EMS and Fire Department has the responsibility to the citizens of Sycamore Township to act responsibly and professionally in providing service in the protection of life and property through the means of Emergency Medical Service, Fire Protection, Rescue, Suppression and Public Education.
